June 26, 2009 - Timber Jeneva Negley is BORN

This whole week was very unpredictable, but the most beautiful week in our lives. On Monday, I had my regular doctor's appointment. They checked my urine and found a protein in it. They took my blood pressure and it was higher then normal. The doctor then looked at my swollen feet and told me that I might be having something called "preeclampsia", which has all the same symptoms. They gave me a big jar to collect my urine for 24 hours. I was glad to work from home that Monday. They sent my sample to the hospital for a test. I received a phone call on Thursday June 25th from a nurse that the protein in my urine was getting higher and that I might be delivering our baby this weekend. I kind of thought that the test would turn OK and it would be just a fluke so I didn't expect this news. I told her I would like to have another opinion and I would like to talk to a doctor. Doctor Makkappati had an opening so Paul and I came in. They measured my blood pressure again and it was way high...no wonder after receiving this news. The doctor said it might get worst very rapidly and she would like us to go to the hospital that day. That came as a shock as well. They were concerned about my rising blood pressure. She said pack your bags and head to the hospital. I went to work to finish a few things and then told my boss what was going on and then came home. I was still pretty stressed out so I decided to relax while having a pedicure done. After I came home, the phone rang and it was the doctor's office. The hospital had called and wondered why we had not checked in. They said to come to the hospital right away and that it is a urgent matter. Our neighbor took a few pictures of us before we left for the hospital.

We arrived around 3 pm. It was about 4 pm when they gave me pills to start the contractions. It took the whole night for the contractions to increase. By 7 am the next day on Friday, June 26th I was in a pain with strong contractions. My belly hurt and most uncomfortable was my back pain. With my higher blood pressure I couldn't move from the bed so I just turned from one side to the other. About 7:30 am the doctor on call that day, Dr. Booth, broke my water. The nurse then came and took my blood for a potential epidural. I said we'll see how this goes, but the pain was already pretty bad. The nurse said: "Oh, honey, this is nothing compared to what is coming". I said call the anestizialogist to give me the epidural. It was quite the experience. After the epidural I could sleep, relax with no feeling of contractions. The nurse was checking on me from time to time. About 3 pm, she came and checked my cervix and she said, oh my, you are already 10 cm dilated, we better get ready for the birth. Another nurse came in to help to set up the equipment. She was a wonderful nurse with 18 years of experience. She counted for me when to push. Paul was right beside me and I felt his support while I was pushing for about 45 minutes. It was 4:55 pm when our baby girl Timber Jeneva Negley was born. It was a wonderful and unforgettable moment. The doctor put her on my belly right away after the birth to hold her. Paul and I chose the name Timber because we love our cabin and tree farm down in Clarinda. The cabin is built as a "timber frame". We wanted to honor both grandmothers with her middle name. Paul's Mom's name is Jean and my Mom's name is Eva, so simply Jeneva for the middle name. The nurse and Paul then took Timber to measure her. We stayed for a couple of hours and then they moved us one floor down to a postpartum room. It was a nice huge room with a double bed, pull out sofa, and a nice table sitting area. I wanted to breastfeed her first, but because she was born 3 weeks early she didn't latch on and didn't have the sucking capability. We tried to use a "shield" to get her adjusted to my breast. She was so tiny so we were giving her formula from the start. My milk production wasn't established yet, but I managed to give a little of my milk. We stayed in the hospital until Sunday 9 pm. It was so nice to have nurses take her away, so we could get some sleep, call the room service for a good meal three times a days and have all the comfort. We signed the release form and strapped Timber in her car seat and drove home on Sunday night. It was a beautiful night with a gorgeous sunset. Then all the fun started on our own.

I was going to keep this blog just until our baby Negley is born. So, this is the end of this blog. Thank you for all the support! We'll be sending e-mail updates with pictures once a while. Thank you for all the congratulations for our new addition Timber Jeneva Negley.

Dali me velkou nadobu, abych nastradala vsechnu moc za 24 hodin. Doktorka Makkappati mohla me vzit v ten samy den, tak jsme k ni s Paulem zasli. Zmerili me krevni tlak a byl nadmiru vysoky...neni divu, kdyz me rano oznamili tuto zpravu. Nasi sousedi nam udelali par snimku pred nasim odjezdem.
Dorazili jsme do nemocnice kolem 15 hod. Bylo asi 16 hodin, kdyz me dali prasky, aby se spustily stahy. Trvalo to ale celou noc, aby stahy byly silnejsi. Stupnovaly se a kolem 7 hod ranni nasledujiciho dne 26. cervna byly opravdu silne. Bolelo me bricho, ale hlavne me silne bolela zada. Pocitala me, kdy jsou stahy a kdy mam tlacit. Paul stal vedle me a byl velka opora. Sestricka ji potom s Paulem vzala a zmerila. V pokoji jsme zustali jeste nekolik hodin a potom nas prevezli do nizsiho patra do poporodniho pokoje s vybornym ochrannym systemem. Zustali jsme v nemocnici do nedele 21 hod. Bylo to super mit kolem sebe sestricky, ktere se ti postarali o ditko a my jsme se mohli prospat, nebo zavolat si, aby nam dorucili tri krat denne dobre chutne jidlo a mit vsechen komfort. Nakonec jsme museli podepsat propustovaci papiry a zapasali jsme Timber do autosedacky, bez ktere te nepusti domu, a jeli jsme domu v nedeli vecer. Bylo nadherne pocasi s krasnym zapadem slunce. A pote vsechna sranda nam doma zacacala.

Dekujeme take za vsechny gratulace k narozeni naseho prirustku do rodiny Timber Jeneva Negley.
