June 26, 2009 - Timber Jeneva Negley is BORN

This whole week was very unpredictable, but the most beautiful week in our lives. On Monday, I had my regular doctor's appointment. They checked my urine and found a protein in it. They took my blood pressure and it was higher then normal. The doctor then looked at my swollen feet and told me that I might be having something called "preeclampsia", which has all the same symptoms. They gave me a big jar to collect my urine for 24 hours. I was glad to work from home that Monday. They sent my sample to the hospital for a test. I received a phone call on Thursday June 25th from a nurse that the protein in my urine was getting higher and that I might be delivering our baby this weekend. I kind of thought that the test would turn OK and it would be just a fluke so I didn't expect this news. I told her I would like to have another opinion and I would like to talk to a doctor. Doctor Makkappati had an opening so Paul and I came in. They measured my blood pressure again and it was way high...no wonder after receiving this news. The doctor said it might get worst very rapidly and she would like us to go to the hospital that day. That came as a shock as well. They were concerned about my rising blood pressure. She said pack your bags and head to the hospital. I went to work to finish a few things and then told my boss what was going on and then came home. I was still pretty stressed out so I decided to relax while having a pedicure done. After I came home, the phone rang and it was the doctor's office. The hospital had called and wondered why we had not checked in. They said to come to the hospital right away and that it is a urgent matter. Our neighbor took a few pictures of us before we left for the hospital.

We arrived around 3 pm. It was about 4 pm when they gave me pills to start the contractions. It took the whole night for the contractions to increase. By 7 am the next day on Friday, June 26th I was in a pain with strong contractions. My belly hurt and most uncomfortable was my back pain. With my higher blood pressure I couldn't move from the bed so I just turned from one side to the other. About 7:30 am the doctor on call that day, Dr. Booth, broke my water. The nurse then came and took my blood for a potential epidural. I said we'll see how this goes, but the pain was already pretty bad. The nurse said: "Oh, honey, this is nothing compared to what is coming". I said call the anestizialogist to give me the epidural. It was quite the experience. After the epidural I could sleep, relax with no feeling of contractions. The nurse was checking on me from time to time. About 3 pm, she came and checked my cervix and she said, oh my, you are already 10 cm dilated, we better get ready for the birth. Another nurse came in to help to set up the equipment. She was a wonderful nurse with 18 years of experience. She counted for me when to push. Paul was right beside me and I felt his support while I was pushing for about 45 minutes. It was 4:55 pm when our baby girl Timber Jeneva Negley was born. It was a wonderful and unforgettable moment. The doctor put her on my belly right away after the birth to hold her. Paul and I chose the name Timber because we love our cabin and tree farm down in Clarinda. The cabin is built as a "timber frame". We wanted to honor both grandmothers with her middle name. Paul's Mom's name is Jean and my Mom's name is Eva, so simply Jeneva for the middle name. The nurse and Paul then took Timber to measure her. We stayed for a couple of hours and then they moved us one floor down to a postpartum room. It was a nice huge room with a double bed, pull out sofa, and a nice table sitting area. I wanted to breastfeed her first, but because she was born 3 weeks early she didn't latch on and didn't have the sucking capability. We tried to use a "shield" to get her adjusted to my breast. She was so tiny so we were giving her formula from the start. My milk production wasn't established yet, but I managed to give a little of my milk. We stayed in the hospital until Sunday 9 pm. It was so nice to have nurses take her away, so we could get some sleep, call the room service for a good meal three times a days and have all the comfort. We signed the release form and strapped Timber in her car seat and drove home on Sunday night. It was a beautiful night with a gorgeous sunset. Then all the fun started on our own.

I was going to keep this blog just until our baby Negley is born. So, this is the end of this blog. Thank you for all the support! We'll be sending e-mail updates with pictures once a while. Thank you for all the congratulations for our new addition Timber Jeneva Negley.

Dali me velkou nadobu, abych nastradala vsechnu moc za 24 hodin. Doktorka Makkappati mohla me vzit v ten samy den, tak jsme k ni s Paulem zasli. Zmerili me krevni tlak a byl nadmiru vysoky...neni divu, kdyz me rano oznamili tuto zpravu. Nasi sousedi nam udelali par snimku pred nasim odjezdem.
Dorazili jsme do nemocnice kolem 15 hod. Bylo asi 16 hodin, kdyz me dali prasky, aby se spustily stahy. Trvalo to ale celou noc, aby stahy byly silnejsi. Stupnovaly se a kolem 7 hod ranni nasledujiciho dne 26. cervna byly opravdu silne. Bolelo me bricho, ale hlavne me silne bolela zada. Pocitala me, kdy jsou stahy a kdy mam tlacit. Paul stal vedle me a byl velka opora. Sestricka ji potom s Paulem vzala a zmerila. V pokoji jsme zustali jeste nekolik hodin a potom nas prevezli do nizsiho patra do poporodniho pokoje s vybornym ochrannym systemem. Zustali jsme v nemocnici do nedele 21 hod. Bylo to super mit kolem sebe sestricky, ktere se ti postarali o ditko a my jsme se mohli prospat, nebo zavolat si, aby nam dorucili tri krat denne dobre chutne jidlo a mit vsechen komfort. Nakonec jsme museli podepsat propustovaci papiry a zapasali jsme Timber do autosedacky, bez ktere te nepusti domu, a jeli jsme domu v nedeli vecer. Bylo nadherne pocasi s krasnym zapadem slunce. A pote vsechna sranda nam doma zacacala.

Dekujeme take za vsechny gratulace k narozeni naseho prirustku do rodiny Timber Jeneva Negley.

June 21, 2009 - Week 36

Now I am seeing a doctor once a week. She told me our baby is doing fine, but she measured my belly to be a little shorter then average. Therefore, she scheduled another ultrasound to double check the size of the baby. It turned out to be an estimated 5 pounds 7 ounces with plenty of amniotic fluid. The doctor also told me that I am already about 2 - 2.5cm dialated. This doesn't mean I will deliver right away because sometimes it takes longer to get to 5cm and more. She mentioned I might be delivering a little earlier then July 17th...we shall see. We also had our last prenatal class. It was basically a summary of everything we have been through.
On Saturday we went to a Home Show. It was a new development area with nice houses in Johnston and they had 7 houses open to the public. Some were better then others. Afterwards, my legs and feet were swollen so I had to apply ice and have my feet elevated. We also bought our new nursing swivel glider chair.

Chodim ted kazdy tyden k doktorce. Rekla me take, ze jsem uz asi 2-2,5 cm otevrena. Rikala me, ze asi budu rodit drive nez 17. cervence. Uvidime. Sli jsme take na posledni seminar.
Take jsme koupili nove kozene houpaci kreslo na krmeni ditka.

June 14, 2009 - Week 35

We have received our crib, which Paul ordered on-line. Unfortunately, it came little damaged, so the company will ship the damaged piece again. It seems like our room will never be ready, because they also delayed our carpet installation. Overall our baby is doing fine. Sometimes I think we will have a soccer player how hard the kicks are. I am the one struggling with swollen feet. I had to buy special open sandals, because I cannot fit to any other shoes. My feet look funny, like a balloons and feel like I sprained my ankle more then once.
This week was devoted to Glenn Miller Festival. Paul went to Clarinda already on Wednesday night and I came down on Saturday morning after a big Stanley Cup final game on Friday night. I think the festival went well with descent weather. My girlfriends Traci and Dawn came down on Saturday afternoon. I showed them the cabin and the farm, we went to the Glenn Miller Orchestra concert, then for dinner to the Mexican restaurant and we also went for a portion of the dance at night. On Sunday Paul played with his Evensongs band for the Picnic, which was really fun. I visited Grandma and took her to see Paul's concert. She also told me her "baby" stories from her time when she sow the doctor just once during her pregnancy. These stories takes you back in time and you realize what an amazing technology we have these days.

Konecne nam byla dorucena nase postylka, kterou Paul objednal pres internet. Vypada to, ze my nakonec ten pokojik nebudeme mit do porodu hotovy, protoze nam rekli, ze nam koberec budou muset nainstalovat pozdeji, no uvidime.
Me zname Traci a Dawn prijely v sobotu odpoledne.

June 7, 2009 - Week 34

We had another prenatal class this week and Paul also went by himself to one class called "Boot Camp for Dads". They had recent Dads come in with their newborns for this presentation so Paul had the opportunity to change a few diapers. He is now experienced so I want him to do this all the time :-) I went for a regular doctor's checkup. From now on, I will be going every week. Our baby is doing fine, kicks pretty good and has a heartbeat of 143 beats per minute. The doctor measured my belly, which was 31 centimeters, so they know if the baby is growing appropriately. She told me this is about average so everything seems OK. I weigh myself every week about the same time and I realize I've already gained 32 pounds. I still have about 5 weeks to go...oh well. I don't know where all the weight is hiding because everyone is telling me that I don't look that big.
On Saturday, one of our coworkers celebrated his 40th birthday so we went to his party. The whole weekend I felt sleepy. It was raining and to our surprise the tornado sirens in town went off. I guess they had a little tornado north of us. I thought my head would split because of the changing weather. On Sunday, we visited our former coworker who gave birth to a baby girl in January and now has decided to stay at home with the baby. She gave birth in the same hospital where we are going to so we had a lot to talk about. We also shopped for new carpet in our baby's room. Paul was showing his skills in the kitchen on Sunday afternoon when he grilled the perfect steak with potatoes. I am using my new herb garden for cooking which adds a lot of flavor. I am also enjoying my outdoor flowers.

Take jsme nakupovali novy koberec do detskeho pokoje.
Paul ukazal v nedeli odpoledne sve schopnosti manevrovat v kuchyni, kdyz griloval ten perfektni steak s brambory. Ja pouzivam moji novou zahradku s ruznym korenim, protoze to krasne prida na prichuti. Take si vychutnavam moje venkovni kyticky.

May 31, 2009 - Week 33

Monday was the Memorial Day holiday. Paul returned from Clarinda late at night after working on the farm and in the cabin's future bathroom. He went back on Friday for the weekend. He planted more trees and also about a month ago we planted a unique tree I brought back from Czech called "oskoruse", a type of European mountainash.
During the week we went for another prenatal class and I made it once to the gym for a light workout. We also made more baby purchases...this time the car seat and the crib. I feel more and more the pain in my lower back and it is uncomfortable to sleep especially with the multiple trips to the bathroom.
The highlight this week was the weekend wall picture painting in our baby's room. I chose a picture from a children's book by the Czech author Josef Lada. It is what they call a Water Man story. He lives in the pond and comes out at night and sits on a willow tree. My friend Jan and her daughter Kim came to help me paint. Jan is an art teacher and she did an outstanding job. It reminds me of the Czech land and we also have our cats Snooky, Romeo and Rascal in the picture. It is a neat painting and very special for me. I am sure the baby will not care and maybe the first words will not be Momma and Daddy, but kitty and tree. We shall see.

Zasadil tam dalsi stromy a take jsme asi pred mesicem nasadili vzacny strom "Oskoruse", ktery jsem privezla z Cech, latinsky "Sorbus Domestica".
V prubehu tydne jsme opet meli dalsi predporodni lekci a ja jsem si aspon jednou sla lehce zacvicit. Take jsme nakoupili dalsi detske veci a to auto sedacku a postylku.
Vsak uvidime.

May 24, 2009 - Week 32‏

On Monday I went for my bi-weekly appointment to the doctor. I was asking for my Glucose test results. She said everything was normal and I don't have any issues. I was definitely glad to hear that. When I came home I had my Czech cookies right away. That would be hard for me not be able to eat any ice cream or sweet stuff. I don't eat much of it, but I get a sweet tooth once a while.
On Tuesday, we invited our friend coworker from Amsterdam, Netherlands over for dinner. Paul grilled a steak and pork chop, I prepared potatoes with veggies and we topped the dinner with ice cream with hot fruit and whipped cream. Our friend gave us different kinds of herbs to plant on our garden as a present. Later in the week I planted them besides our tomatoes.
On Wednesday we had our first Prenatal class in Mercy hospital in downtown. These are 6 weeks classes and we should get prepared for the baby's delivery. There was about 20 couples and the instructor had a good sense of humor, which helped.
Paul went over the weekend to Clarinda to work on the cabin bathroom walls and I stayed in Des Moines. I was busy with finishing the baby's room walls and getting ready for the last wall picture paint. Next week, our friend will help me to paint a picture on the main wall from my Czech kid's book.

Nakonec jsme si dali vyborny zmrzlinovy pohar s horkym ovocem.
Pristi tyden me znama pomuze nakreslit Laduv obrazek na tu hlavni stenu.

May 17, 2009 - Week 31

Our baby and its Mom is growing. We made our first big purchase, the baby stroller. Our first riders were Romeo and Rascal. I went to downtown for a long glucose test. You should fast for 12 hours and cannot drink any water. That was the worst part. I felt lightheaded by the time the test was over around 1 pm. At the end of the test I was glad not to see a needle anymore, because they draw my blood 4 times.
On Monday, Paul and I went to celebrate our friend's birthday to the bar. We also had our company "Brew" party at a shelter with plenty of beer and very good barbecue. The weather worked out nicely this week. We went to Clarinda for the weekend. Paul had a practice with his band for the Glenn Miller Festival. It is coming up. Jean found some baby clothes she didn't know about at their attic, so she gave them to me. Paul continued working in the cabin on the bathroom posts for the future bathroom walls and I pruned our fruit trees. Jean and I spent some time cleaning the grass around the trees and we also applied a mulch. I sprayed the trees against a bugs. I was proud that 6 trees (apples, pear, cheery) survived the winter without almost any maintenance. Few trees were eaten by a deer even thou we put fences around them. It was raining a lot, so our pond was nice and full.

Nase ditko a mamka porad roste. My jsme koupili prvni drazsi vec, detsky kocarek.
V pondeli jsme sli do baru oslavit kamosciny narozeniny. V tydnu jsme take meli "pivni" party s vybornym barbecue v pristresku parku, kterou poradalo CCC. Jean me pomohla vytrhat travu kolem stromku a take jsme kolem nich daly mulc.
